Reported risk: Issue:
On certain emergency vehicles, there may be a defect in the rear axle drive pinion that could cause it to break. If this happens, the air brake line could be damaged and cause the parking brakes to apply suddenly.
Note: This recall only affects emergency vehicles equipped with certain 180-series Meritor axles.
Safety Risk:
A parking brake that self-applies while driving could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, if a following driver does not recognize when a vehicle ahead is braking, there could also be an increased risk of a crash.
Corrective Actions:
Spartan will notify owners by mail and instruct you to contact a dealership or repair facility, who must contact Meritor's Technical Call Center to verify if the truck is affected by this campaign. The differential carrier assembly will be replaced, if necessary.
Verify each fact at the issuing agency before acting. Recall scope, affected lots, and remediation instructions may be updated by the agency after our last sync.
