Reported risk: Certain vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 121 - Air Brake Systems. The trailer Antilock Brake System (ABS) fault indicator lamp may not illuminate if a trailer ABS fault occurs, due to a programming or hardware issue with the brake system electronic control unit. An inoperable trailer ABS fault indicator may prevent the driver from being aware of a trailer ABS fault condition, thereby increasing the risk of a crash resulting in property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will reprogram or replace the ABS electronic control unit.
