Reported risk: On certain snowmobiles, incorrect High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) material was used to mold the top of the fuel tank. This material is not designed for use with gasoline. Over time, with exposure to gasoline and gasoline vapors, the filler neck can crack, allowing fuel leakage. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, can result in a fire. Correction: Dealers will replace the fuel tank on snowmobiles that have not had the fuel neck insert kit installed as part of recall 2005289. Snowmobiles that already have an insert kit installed, and that experience additional cracking around the filler neck area, will also have the fuel tank replaced.
