Reported risk: THE ALTERNATOR ON THESE VEHICLES HAS TWO INHERENT PROBLEMS. IF NOT PROPERLY ASSEMBLED THE POSITIVE POWER STUD MAY NOT BE PROPERLY SEALED IN PLACE CAUSING A LOOSE CONNECTION. THE LOOSE CONNECTION CAUSES AN OVER-HEAT CONDITION WHEN THE ALTERNATOR IS UNDER LOAD. ALSO, IF THE POWER STUDS ARE TIGHTENED IMPROPERLY THE INSULATING MATERIAL BETWEEN THE RECTIFIER AND THE ALTERNATOR HOUSING COULD TEAR AND CAUSE THE POSITIVE POWER STUD TO GROUND TO THE ALTERNATOR CASE. THIS ALSO CAUSES AN OVER-HEAT CONDITION. IN EITHER CASE THE ALTERNATOR MAY GET HOT ENOUGH TO CATCH FIRE.
CORRECTION: ALTERNATORS WILL BE REPLACED WITH ONES OF AN IMPROVED DESIGN.
