Reported risk: On certain vehicles, the electrical fuel filler door release is activated through a solenoid mounted to the back side of the fuel filler tube housing. A combination of loose solenoid attachment screws and an internal short circuit of the solenoid to its housing may allow arcing to occur at the solenoid attaching screws. Such arcing could ignite fuel vapours that may be present at the fuel filler pipe cap.
