Reported risk: The surface coating material on the long hoe and rake contain levels of lead in excess of the allowable limit under the Toys Regulations , posing a risk of lead exposure to children. Lead is toxic if ingested, especially to children. A range of serious health effects have been associated with exposure to lead including anemia, vomiting, diarrhea, serious brain injury, convulsions, coma, as well as effects related to the liver, kidneys, heart and immune system. In extreme cases, there have been deaths. Since lead builds up in the body, ongoing exposure to even very small amounts of lead can result in large amounts of lead being present in the body. As of August 6, 2024, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada and the United States.
What you should do

Consumers should immediately stop using the long hoe and rake from the Garden Set, visit Red Toolbox’s recall website for information on how to obtain a free replacement long hoe and rake, upload a photograph disposing these items and upload a photograph showing the 12.2023 manufacturing date on the white label on the bottom of the wheelbarrow.
