Reported risk: The crib's metal tubular mattress-support frame can bend or detach and cause part of the mattress to collapse. This creates a space into which an infant or toddler can roll and become wedged, entrapped, or fall out of the crib, posing a risk of suffocation, strangulation, and falls. On April 29, 2010, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall of Simplicity cribs with metal tubular mattress-support frames by retailers in the United States due to the risk of death from suffocation and strangulation. In the United States, the responsible company, Simplicity Inc., is no longer in business. In Canada, until early 2008, Elfe Juvenile Products was the exclusive distributor of the Simplicity line of products. Health Canada is continuing to monitor and respond appropriately to any complaints or safety concerns related to the Simplicity line of products.
