Reported risk: Health Canada's sampling and evaluation program has revealed that the glaze used on some of the recalled plates may contain lead and cadmium in excess of the allowable limits. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects. Cadmium is highly toxic, builds up in the body, and can cause stomach pains, vomiting and diarrhea. Over time, exposure to cadmium can result in kidney damage. Neither Enesco Canada nor Health Canada has received report of illness or injury to Canadians as related to the use of these plates.
